Court marriage is a legal marriage process that takes place under the provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. It is a secular process of marriage that allows individuals from different religions, castes, or nationalities to get married without the requirement of religious ceremonies or rituals.
The Special Marriage Act, 1954 is an Act of the Parliament of India with provision for secular civil marriage (or “registered marriage”) for people of India and all Indian nationals in foreign countries, irrelevant of the religion or faith followed (both for inter-religious couples and also for atheists and agnostics) by either party.
On the commencement of The Delhi (Compulsory Registration of Marriage) Order, 2014, any marriage solemnized in Delhi between a male having completed 21 years of age and a female having completed 18 years of age on the date of solemnization of the marriage and of which at least one of the parties is an Indian citizen, such marriage shall be compulsorily registrable
